FIFA is teaming up with Mythical Games, the creators of NFL Rivals, to bring soccer fans a Web3 gaming experience with FIFA Rivals. Scheduled for release in summer 2025, this mobile, arcade-style soccer game will be available on iOS and Android devices, letting players build and manage their own soccer clubs while competing in real-time matches.
FIFA Rivals is set to leverage the Mythos blockchain, allowing players to collect and trade NFTs featuring soccer legends and current stars. The game will also include esports tournaments, giving top players a platform to demonstrate their skills.
John Linden, CEO and co-founder of Mythical Games, expressed excitement about the collaboration:
“Our goal is to replicate our success with the previous Rivals game and set new benchmarks in the Web3 gaming sector.”
This isn’t Mythical’s first foray into Web3 sports gaming. The studio’s NFL Rivals, launched in April 2023, has seen over six million downloads and allows users to collect and trade NFT player cards. FIFA, too, has prior Web3 ventures, including its FIFA Collect NFT platform built on Algorand and Polygon and blockchain-based apps tied to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Through FIFA Rivals, FIFA and Mythical Games are set to push the limits of blockchain gaming, merging mainstream popularity with Web3 innovations. Fans can look forward to a distinctive gaming experience that combines traditional soccer with blockchain technology.
