Google has stopped displaying price charts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies in its search results, although users can still access these charts through Google Finance. The change was first noticed by users over the weekend, who pointed out that searches for Bitcoin’s price no longer display a chart, while stock price searches still show the relevant data.
Interestingly, as of now, searching for “DOGE” still produces a chart for Dogecoin, and the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) address balances remain visible in search results. Google has not yet provided a statement on why it removed these cryptocurrency charts.
The disappearance of these charts has sparked conversations within the crypto community regarding Google’s motives. Previously, users could see real-time or near-real-time cryptocurrency price charts directly within Google’s search results, a feature that streamlined access to market data.
Separately, Google Trends data indicates that search interest in “Bitcoin” recently hit a one-year low during the week of October 13-19, 2024, with global interest dropping to just 27% of this year’s peak volume from March. El Salvador leads in Bitcoin search interest, followed by Nigeria, where economic challenges have increased cryptocurrency usage. Ethereum also experienced a decline in search interest, reaching a yearly low of 19%, with Saint Helena, Switzerland, and Slovenia showing the highest search activity.
