Williams Racing and crypto exchange Kraken are bringing back the Rear Wing Takeover contest, this time featuring the new Cosmos Collection NFT airdrop. Designed by Web3 artist CandyApple, the collection includes 100,000 Profile Picture (PFP) NFTs with 10 character types and over 130 unique traits. These NFTs will be airdropped to holders of Williams Racing’s Grid Pass NFTs.
As part of the contest, Grid Pass holders can submit their Cosmos Collection NFTs for a chance to be showcased on Williams Racing’s rear wing during the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin on October 20. From the submissions, fans will vote on a shortlist of 12 NFTs, with six winners selected to appear on the cars of drivers Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto.
James Bower, Williams Racing’s Commercial Director, expressed excitement about the return of the contest, highlighting the high level of engagement it generated last year. Kraken CMO Mayur Gupta called the contest “a great opportunity to collaborate with our Williams Racing partners and accelerate crypto awareness through sport.”
Last year’s Rear Wing Takeover was a success, with six NFTs featured on the Williams Racing cars during the Formula 1 Lenovo U.S. Grand Prix, gaining exposure to millions of fans. The event was powered by Kraken, which launched the Williams Racing Collectibles+ Grid Pass in 2023, attracting over 50,000 claims to date.
Grid Pass holders enjoy various benefits, including Fan Zone activities, merchandise pre-sales, and digital collectible airdrops. For 2024, the Grid Pass has been updated with perks like a 15% discount on Williams Racing merchandise and access to special events, with more surprises to come.
