The SONIC token, powering the Sonic SVM gaming ecosystem on Solana, officially launches Tuesday, January 6, with an airdrop rewarding TikTok gamers for their in-app progress.
Sonic SVM, a Solana-based layer-2 chain focused on gaming, introduced its TikTok-exclusive tap-to-earn game, SonicX, in October. This game allows players to earn token rewards through gameplay, following the success of similar models on Telegram and The Open Network (TON). Now, SonicX users will receive their SONIC tokens as part of the launch event.
The token generation event, scheduled for 12 PM UTC, will mint SONIC tokens on-chain, enabling trading. Alongside this, 7% of the total SONIC supply is allocated for an initial airdrop to SonicX gamers, node operators, and select NFT holders. Players have two claim options: an immediate 60% release with a 6-month vesting bonus or a one-time full claim without bonus.
“We’re excited to expand our tap-to-earn ecosystem, with the SONIC token powering game integrations and AI interactions,” said Chris Zhu, CEO of Sonic SVM. The platform also plans to open its TikTok-based distribution model to other Web3 projects, providing a unique user acquisition channel.
SonicX has already surpassed two million players, proving TikTok’s effectiveness as a gaming funnel. With 30% of the total SONIC supply dedicated to ecosystem and community growth, Sonic SVM aims to fund game studios and offer grants for third-party developers building on its platform.
