Solana Labs has announced the Solana Seeker, a new smartphone set to launch in mid-2025, which boasts significant enhancements over last year’s Solana Saga and comes at less than half the price. Following a surge in demand for the Saga, driven by discounted prices and valuable token airdrops, the Seeker has already garnered 140,000 pre-orders.
Revealed at Token 2049 in Singapore, the Seeker is priced at $450, an aggressive move aimed at accessibility and growth, according to Solana Mobile General Manager Emmett Hollyer. He emphasized that this pricing should not be seen as a downgrade but rather a strategic choice.
While full specifications have not yet been released, Hollyer noted that the Seeker will feature a brighter display, a longer-lasting battery, and improved camera capabilities, including a new third sensor. Performance-wise, he stated the Seeker will be a “meaningful step up” from the Saga, benefiting from advancements made since the Saga’s specifications were set in early 2022. The Seeker will also be lighter and smaller, appealing to users who may use it as a secondary device.
The rebranding from Saga to Seeker reflects feedback from users and a shift in focus towards specific crypto-related functionalities, such as running node software and participating in decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs). Hollyer explained that the name “Seeker” encapsulates the idea of users looking for new opportunities and experiences.
He acknowledged that the marketing for the Saga may have been confusing regarding its crypto focus. However, with strong pre-order numbers, the team is optimistic about appealing to both new and seasoned crypto users. Hollyer clarified that the Seeker will not be marketed broadly but will instead focus on a targeted audience, aiming to refine the product based on user feedback before expanding its reach.
