Adidas and Bugatti have teamed up to auction a limited number of soccer “boots” through Adidas’ web3 platform, according to an announcement by both companies. These 99 pairs of shoes, inspired by Bugatti’s car designs, will be listed for sale from November 8th to 11th. Potential collectors can place bids using MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payment platform.
The limited-edition shoes, available in black and a shade of blue inspired by early Bugatti Grand Prix cars, each come with a digital twin. The companies emphasized the collection’s exclusivity, stating that it draws upon the characteristics that define Bugatti, known for its “Form Follows Performance” design philosophy, making these shoes highly desirable for devoted collectors.
This collaboration follows Nike-RTFKT’s recent “forging” event, which allowed NFT owners to order physical shoes. Major brands are increasingly targeting highly engaged crypto consumers by offering limited editions of physical products paired with digital assets, often referred to as “phygitals.”
Consumers interested in bidding on these limited-edition shoes will need to use cryptocurrency, but the announcement clarified that users can directly convert traditional currency to cryptocurrency for the auction through MoonPay.
