Amazon’s plans for expansion into the Web3 space were hinted at in an email received by CoinDesk’s managing editor for global policy and regulation, Nikhilesh De, on Friday.
The email, sent by an official Amazon account, appeared to confirm the existence of digital tokens, an NFT gallery, and resale opportunities, following the automatic renewal of an Amazon Prime Video channel subscription.
The email gives an insight into Amazon’s plans for Web3 expansion and suggests where these new tools might live on the platform. While there have been rumors for weeks about Amazon launching its own NFT marketplace, the company has not made any public statements about it. However, crypto news site Blockworks had first touted the idea in January, and The Big Whale had given it a launch date of April 24 in a report earlier this month. The report suggests that the NFT platform will be available through a tab that says “Amazon Digital Marketplace.”
In addition, the email references potential resale prospects for the NFTs, with a caveat that they would not be available for resale until they are “unlocked.” It goes on to advise that De must register as a reseller before he can list the NFTs. However, the link given for the resale page seemed to be defective. Despite receiving both the email and transaction confirmation simultaneously, De was unable to access the digital tokens.
