As Bitcoin turns 14 years old, Bitcoin fans from all across the globe chose to celebrate in a range of ways, some even choosing to wire BTC to the genesis block address that contains rewards for mining.
On the 3rd of January 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin by mining the genesis block, leading to the first 50 Bitcoin tokens being minted. Starting from this point, an entire industry emerged and began to develop and a myriad of people started to invest in this mission for an alternative to traditional finance. After 14 years, many crypto fans chose to show their respect for Bitcoin by sharing different greetings to the pioneer digital asset.
Of those people, there are some who chose to pay tribute to Bitcoin’s creation by redirecting small BTC amounts to the aforementioned wallet address. Since its emergence, that Bitcoin account received numerous random donations, the total value of this ‘community chest’ reaching 68.56 BTC, or close to USD 1.1 million.
Among the many celebratory messages from Bitcoin fans, there was even a video displaying the newspaper with the headline celebrating the genesis block. A week prior to Bitcoin’s Genesis Day, on the 28th of December, Microstrategy, a business intelligence company, made additional BTC purchases to increase its holdings.
