Crypto collectibles startup Courtyard is set to distribute hundreds of mystery packs containing tokenized Pokémon cards via NFTs. Each digital pack, scheduled for release on November 21, will include an NFT representing a graded Pokémon card, which collectors can choose to trade. The Pokémon cards, ranging from vintage base set to modern and promo cards, include rare finds like a 2020 Sword & Shield Shiny Star Charizard and a 1998 Starter Red Green Gift Set Holo Scyther. These cards are securely stored via vaulting firm Brink’s and can also be redeemed for their physical counterparts.
Courtyard is collaborating with crypto tech startup Privy and Ethereum NFT collection Chimpers for this unique giveaway. The digital packs will be distributed across four daily drops, with a total of 400 packs made available from November 14 to November 17. In addition to the free giveaways, Courtyard plans to reserve 10 packs for collectors who provide the most compelling responses to Thanksgiving-themed questions.
Courtyard’s innovative approach leverages blockchain technology to tokenize Pokémon cards, ensuring digital scarcity and providing a unique identifier for each asset. This tokenization allows collectors to hold NFTs as certificates of authenticity, redeemable for the actual physical Pokémon cards. Courtyard’s previous drops have been successful, selling out across 1,700 cards and bringing around $200,000 worth of graded Pokémon cards onto the blockchain.
