OpenSea has revealed that it has sold more than 1.3 million Polygon non-fungible tokens (NFTs) during the last month of 2022.
In total, the transactions involving Polygon NFTs amassed more than USD 15.3 million, involving 116k traders. Based on NFT transactions per active trader, December represented the third-highest period in 2022. Every active trader received 11.24 NFTs. However, December also had the lowest average volume per sold NFTs in 2022 (USD 11.8 as opposed to USD 482 in Jan 2022). Furthermore, each active trader invested, on average, 133 dollars.
Despite great numbers reported for Polygon NFTs, in 2022 OpenSea registered a 23 per cent loss. Overall, the amount of NFT transactions on the platform decreased by 25 per cent. According to data from Cointelegraph, the platform registered close to 80k transfers at the beginning of 2022. Despite of that, those numbers continued to decrease, noting a 25 per cent dip by the 31st of December (60k transactions).
OpenSea also noticed a decrease in its market share. During the last year, the platform’s market share decreased from 50 per cent to 33 per cent. By the end of 2022, OpenSea’s ETH gas usage dropped to 9 per cent from 20 per cent. Despite all that, Polygon NFTs remained popular, which allowed the platform to continue. This is the reason why OpenSea is expected to bounce back in 2023.
