Vitalik Buterin, one of people who founded Ethereum, gave close to USD 150,000 in ETH to an earthquake support organisation for Turkey and Syria.
Ahbap Earthquake Support is the organization that received the crypto donations to aid with the earthquake disaster in the two countries. The latest news emerged from the transaction data available on Etherscan. The data indicates that 99 ether moved from the vitalik.eth wallet address to another one whose title shows that it belongs to the Ahbap organization.
Currently, the receiving wallet has close to 393 ETH which are worth approximately USD 600k at the time of writing. The total value of the holdings contained in the organization’s wallet is more than USD 1.55 million.
According to the earthquake support organization’s official website, crypto donations allowed it to collect over USD 4,2 million in total.
Ahbap looks to help people affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that ravaged Turkey and Syria on the 6th of February 2023. Over 9,000 people are confirmed dead after the quake, making it one of the most deadly quakes since 2011, in Fukushima, Japan. Search and rescue teams continue their operations in the two countries at the time of writing.
