In an exclusive announcement, Farcana reveals a successful seed funding round, raising $10 million from prominent backers including Animoca Brands, Polygon Ventures, Fenbushi Capital, and Merit Circle, among others. This funding will propel the development of Farcana, a third-person multiplayer shooter game with a unique twist: it pays out Bitcoin to top players.
Participating investors in the seed funding round include Rarestone Capital, MMPro Trust, Unpopular Ventures, Kapo Capital, Emchain, Hasu Capital, and Dravus Investment. Animoca Brands’ co-founder and chairman, Yat Siu, expressed confidence in Farcana, stating, “We believe Farcana has the potential to be the next iconic blockchain game and continuously bring new users to Web3.”
Farcana draws inspiration from popular games like Blizzard’s Overwatch and Riot Games’ Valorant but introduces its own narrative set in a near-future world where humanity has migrated to Mars. The discovery of a superpower-granting substance, Axelar, sets the stage for Farcana, an ongoing tournament where players with Axelar-induced powers compete in a sci-fi, team-based hero shooter.
The game aims to incorporate blockchain elements, introducing a play-to-earn tournament feature that rewards the top 10% of players with Bitcoin. Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez, founder and former CEO of G2 Esports, serves as an advisor to the Farcana team. The game’s unique approach to blockchain integration includes every in-game item existing as an NFT, from character and weapon skins to pets, graffiti, voicelines, and charms. Transactions within the game will be facilitated using the FAR token.
Farcana, based in the MENA region, previously collaborated with Dubai’s Economy and Tourism department, hosting a pre-alpha gameplay test at the Dubai Esports Festival in June 2023. Animoca Brands sees its strategic investment in Farcana as part of its broader vision to drive Web3 development in the MENA region. Farcana’s plans include a free Bitcoin Ordinals mint, utilizing the Ethereum scaling network Polygon. A free mint for “Mars Enigma Vault” NFTs is scheduled for December 19, showcasing the game’s commitment to a play-to-earn model with optional battle passes, NFTs, and crafting features. Farcana is poised to introduce a unique gaming experience with a blend of blockchain innovation and esports competition.
