Riot, an industry leader in mining Bitcoin, has announced its most productive month in terms of mining Bitcoin, with 740 coins minted in January 2023.
Although its mining rigs decreased in number and its hash rate was reduced, BTC miner Riot announced its all-time high Bitcoin production. With 740 BTC mined, Riot managed to increase its activity by almost 62 per cent from the 458 Bitcoin mined in January 2022. Furthermore, the recent activity translates into 12 per cent more than the 659 Bitcoin mined in December 2022.
The Bitcoin mined by Riot in January is worth USD 16.8 million at the moment. The record activity followed a disruption in operations suffered by miners based in North America at the end of last year as a result of harsh weather.
After recently dropping blockchain from its company name, Riot became Riot Platforms. The company suffered from extreme weather conditions and had to be temporarily shut down. After closing its Rockdale, Texas facility, Jason Les, the company’s CEO stated that due to the damage it suffered, the company had to delay its target of reaching a total hash rate capacity of 12.5 EH/s, which it previously announced.
Almost 2.5 EH/s of the total capacity to hash rate was affected by the winter disruptions, according to the company. Riot currently has a fleet of 82,656 mining rigs creating a 9.3 EH/s hash rate.
