Square Enix, the creative force behind Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, has initiated the first NFT auction for its upcoming game, Symbiogenesis, while announcing the official launch date as December 21. Symbiogenesis, a browser-based Ethereum and Polygon NFT game, saw its first mint and auction process kick off with a three-stage rollout. The publisher plans to release a total of 500 in-game Ethereum NFT characters through this process.
To incentivize participation, Square Enix is offering free NFTs to bidders involved in the auction. During the sale, placing a bid will earn participants a complimentary “special countdown illustration” NFT, available in four versions. Additionally, those bidding a minimum of 0.05 ETH (approximately $100) will receive a “Member Card Red (Colored)” NFT, granting extra points within the Symbiogenesis game.
The auction features three waves, with character NFTs initially listed as free to claim. However, if multiple eligible users vie for the same NFT, an auction will be initiated. Symbiogenesis represents Square Enix’s foray into the NFT gaming space, marking its first original NFT game. While the company has engaged with cryptocurrencies through investments and collaborations, Symbiogenesis represents a significant step into the rapidly evolving NFT gaming landscape.
