France-based high-end fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent has applied for trademarking its name and logo, showing intent to enter the NFT environment and the metaverse.
The logo and name of Yves Saint Laurent are the subjects of the fashion house’s trademark applications. The applications were filed on the 12th of January 2023 with the USPTO. The luxury fashion designer wishes to provide digital goods such as skincare, perfumery, hair care, and makeup products to be used in virtual ecosystems, including the metaverse.
In the application, the fashion brand also mentions multimedia files meant for downloading, such as text, illustrations, video, and music, in the form of non-fungible tokens and connected to digital products.
Among the plans of Yves Saint Laurent, there are strategies to provide online sales solutions for digital goods. The news was tweeted by a lawyer who specialized in Web3 application and trademarks, Michael Kondoudis.
On the 16th of March 2022, the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) received three application filings. Those were for a woven Yves Saint Laurent logo, the name Saint Laurent, and a YSL word mark.
All along, YSL made plans to roll out NFTs, according to the trademark application. The Class 42 filing incorporated registered and downloadable digital goods including fashion-related images, audio, text, and video, supported by NFT technology. They are meant to be used on Web3.
Besides YSL, Louis Vuitton and Hermes also presented similar applications in 2022, with hopes of entering the metaverse and adopting NFTs.
