Former United States President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to take a break from his ongoing trial proceedings to meet with supporters who purchased his “Mugshot Edition” NFTs, according to a report by U.S. news outlet Axios on Wednesday.
After returning to Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, Trump is said to be hosting a dinner at Mar-a-Lago for his supporters the following evening. Each of the invitees individually acquired more than 47 NFTs, priced at $99 each, as indicated in copies of the dinner invitation obtained by Axios.
During a moment outside the courtroom on Tuesday, Trump expressed his preference for campaigning over participating in what he characterized as a “hoax” trial. He is currently facing his first criminal trial in New York for alleged counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
The “Mugshot” NFTs feature Trump’s mugshot from his 2023 arrest on conspiracy charges aimed at overturning the results of the 2020 U.S. election, which has yet to undergo trial. Notably, the company behind these NFTs has previously clarified that it is not directly affiliated with Trump’s campaign.
In addition to the dinner, supporters who purchased a sufficient number of NFTs to qualify for the event will reportedly receive a physical card containing a fragment of Trump’s suit worn on the day of his arrest in Atlanta last August. Described as “the most historically significant artifact in United States history” on the NFT promotion website, this suit fragment adds a unique dimension to the NFT ownership experience.
