The highly anticipated Avalanche-based first-person shooter, Shrapnel, has unveiled its early access gameplay on the popular Epic Games Store. However, access to this version, dubbed Shrapnel Training Exercises One (STX1), is limited to owners of the game’s Extraction Pack access keys.
Players who have purchased one of the game’s Extraction Pack access keys will be able to participate in three-day play windows, each lasting about eight hours per day. The game studio Neon, behind Shrapnel, revealed that around 3,000 keys have already been sold, with prices ranging from $20 to $100 based on the included features and perks.
During the STX1 session from February 8 to February 10, participants will have the opportunity to compete for $100,000 worth of SHRAP tokens in prizes. CEO Mark Long emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping the game’s development, stating that early access allows players to be actively involved in the game’s evolution.
Despite delays in the release, which was initially slated for December, Shrapnel aims to provide supporters with a taste of the game’s experience and gather feedback ahead of its full launch as a free-to-play title in 2025. Neon’s recent $20 million Series A funding round underscores the growing excitement surrounding the project, despite ongoing legal challenges within the company.
