Former U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of the United States taking the lead in the global cryptocurrency race, asserting that it is beneficial for the country. In a Bloomberg interview published Tuesday, Trump stated that if the U.S. does not embrace the cryptocurrency industry, other nations, particularly China, will seize the opportunity.
“If I throw it aside, it’s going to be picked up in another country, most likely China—they’re pretty advanced in that sphere,” Trump remarked. “So you have to look at it—what I want, again, is what is good for the country.”
As the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Trump declared that cryptocurrency is “not going away” and revealed plans to release another series of NFTs. “I did it three times [and] I’m going to do another one because the people want me to do another one,” he said. His previous NFT launches included trading card-themed tokens that offered buyers various perks, such as pieces of his suit or tie and access to exclusive dinner events with him.
Trump praised the U.S. crypto industry’s potential, stating that it has a “good foundation” despite being in its early stages. He also noted his interactions with “top-flight” industry leaders, suggesting a robust future for American cryptocurrency innovation.
Trump’s comments underscore his support for the burgeoning crypto sector and reflect his belief that the U.S. must lead to prevent other countries, particularly China, from dominating the space. As he eyes another presidential run, his stance on crypto could play a significant role in shaping U.S. policy and industry dynamics in the coming years.
