Solana has announced on Twitter that Linked Roles, Discord’s latest announcement, can support the blockchain, Solana claiming that this is a first.
Users that have the Solana app installed on their Discord servers can now receive prompts to connect and authenticate with their wallet. Based on their Solana wallet, users can assign Linked Roles.
In the Twitter thread, Solana declared that through Linked Roles the trust and safety aspect is improved on Discord since they allow server admins to use metadata – wallet age, holdings, or number of transactions – to create gate channels and roles.
Discord recently announced that it improved the functionality of its Connections with Linked Roles. Users and developers can benefit from this fresh type of role that is created by authenticating profiles with outside accounts. In the next few weeks, Discord will roll out over 20 official Connections with the new functionality. The categories include art, gaming, finance, fitness, marketplaces, and social. Besides Solana, users can connect to Discord via Twitter, PayPal, eBay, Reddit, Crunchyroll, Steam, and others.
Discord states that, by allowing users to connect via outside trusted sources, it can improve the safety of its communities. Also, by giving this boost to Connections, Discord believes it can reduce the number of scams and false identities, since users regularly sell or trade on the platform.
