Reial Club Deportivo (RCD) Espanyol has announced that it started to accept BTC and other crypto for products and services, including merchandise, tickets, and food & beverages.
The football club wishes to introduce the new payment method starting next season, which will make it the first club in La Liga (the Spanish professional football league) to accept crypto payments. In the grand scheme of things, Espanyol is not the only professional sports team to introduce Bitcoin payment acceptance. In the United States’ National Football League, the Tennessee Titans are the first team to implement Bitcoin purchases for recurring and large acquisitions. In 2021, the NBA partnered with Coinbase for sponsorship.
The news came after Espanyol recently partnered with Crypto Snack, a Barcelona-headquartered company. The latter’s SNAK token is one of the most in-demand DEX gaming crypto available on Binance’s Smart Chain.
By partnering with Crypto Snack, Espanyol’s fan base can now make purchases with digital assets such as SNAK, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. People think that this collaboration is another step forward in bringing crypto in the sports industry, particularly in Europe.
According to Crypto Snack’s CEO, the partnership with Espanyol will allow the club’s fans to access a completely different marketplace where they can support their favorite team by using Bitcoin or other crypto.
