The developers behind the Ethereum NFT game “Parallel” are shifting gears to Solana for their next venture, unveiling an AI-driven “survival sim” titled “Colony.”
Although the Ethereum NFT card-battling game Parallel recently launched its open beta, Parallel Studios is already forging ahead with its next crypto game, which will be built on the Solana blockchain.
“Colony,” previously teased by the studio, has now been extensively outlined in a whitepaper released late Thursday, offering a comprehensive look into a game that will leverage the Parallel universe’s foundations but with vastly different gameplay, all on a new blockchain.
Described as a “survival simulation” game, Colony harnesses generative AI and is played by autonomous “agents” beyond your direct control. Players will initiate their agents by defining their base personality through a series of questions, but the agents will evolve independently over time.
Your AI-driven agent will possess its own autonomy. While you can offer suggestions to your agent, they may not always comply.
For instance, if a user suggests to their avatar, “Perhaps you should plant an apple tree for future food?” the avatar may respond, sometimes interpreting suggestions in light of other objectives or even rejecting them if they conflict with their goals or personality traits.
“In such cases, an owner may find themselves debating with or cajoling their avatar to complete the task,” the whitepaper explains. “Eventually the avatar will settle upon its intended objectives—occasionally even disregarding its owner’s suggestions—and begin to pursue the tasks it has deemed most advantageous, without its owner directly controlling each action.”
Initially, Colony will revolve around the existing Parallel Avatar NFTs, with 11,001 existing on Ethereum. PRIME token holders could potentially vote on a governance proposal to mint more on Solana, as the game plans to incorporate a “breeding” mechanism to generate additional agents over time, similar to Axie Infinity’s monster generations.
PRIME tokens from Ethereum will serve as wrapped tokens bridged to Solana and will be used in-game as rewards, while also being awarded to players. However, only NFT avatar owners will be eligible for crypto rewards, with a “free-to-play” version available but with restrictions.
The Colony team anticipates launching a public alpha version in Q4 2024 or Q1 2025. The recent Colony announcement has significantly boosted the price of PRIME, with the token surging 22% over the last 24 hours to surpass $21, hitting an all-time high of $23.39 early Friday, according to CoinGecko data.
